During Prohibition, the Wisconsin Northwoods were Al Capone’s backyard. The island just off POV Resort’s shore was owned by Capone’s personal physician, and it’s said that armed goons patrolled its outer shores while gangsters used these remote lakes to hide out and move Canadian whisky south to Chicago. The same lakes your kayak will cross tomorrow. This A-frame luxury tent — a replica of the canvas tents used in the 1920s and 30s, and perhaps on this very shoreline — is the most secluded glamping site at POV Resort, curated with historic photographs and Prohibition-era memorabilia as part of America’s first Living History Museum of Camping.

Private, wooded, and completely off the grid from the other campsites, it has a covered porch with a view deep into the forest — no neighbors in sight, just trees, stars, and the firepit glow. Inside: a queen bed and two full futons sleeping up to 6, plus a kitchen table. Outside: charcoal grill, hammock, tiki torches, two picnic tables, and a private firepit. Shared gas grill station with provided tanks in the campground. A POV Power Station powers phones, laptops, fans, CPAP machines, and low-draw appliances. Mulch ground cover — no mud. Propane space heater provided — bring or purchase 1 lb canisters. Parking for two vehicles; overflow at the bathhouse.
